Uncle Iroh was one of my favorite characters on Avatar: The Last Airbender on Nickelodeon. He was so funny, and such a wealth of wisdom too.

When the series starts, he is a semi retired general in the Fire Nation. His brother Ozai is the Fire Lord. But he decides to mentor his exiled nephew Prince Zuko as he searched for the new avatar.

Uncle Iroh has known many tragedies in his life. The biggest was losing his son in a battle with the Earth Kingdom.

After season one, Iroh and Zuko fall into poverty. They find happiness in it, and Uncle Iroh gets to run a tea shop.

But that happiness is short-lived when Prince Zuko betrays his uncle in an act of deluded selfishness. Though Zuko eventually rights his wrongs and is forgiven by his beloved uncle.

As the once heir to the Fire Nation, it is ironic that Uncle Iroh helped topple the dreams of his father and grandfather. But I am very glad he did.
