As a kid, I missed out on the Batman animated series from the 1990s. I suppose I was watching something else as a kid, so I missed out on little movies like these. I found this one on HBO Max and decided to watch it.
The movie isn’t super original as it’s a pretty standard tale of Mr. Freeze. His wife Nora Fries may be brought back to life from a comatose state, but she needs a transplant from a donor with an extremely rare blood type. Medically, her chances are about a 1 million to one ratio of success.
The story in Gotham City sets out with Barbara Gordon getting pretty serious about dating Dick Grayson. I’m sure her father Commissioner Gordon has no idea either of the two are Batman’s sidekicks at night. Wouldn’t that be quite a shocker for him?
But what’s surprising is that Barbara Gordon is the perfect match for the transplant operation. So Mr. Freeze kidnaps her against her will. Normally, Barbara Gordon would gladly help someone in need, but she senses something is wrong. And Mr. Freeze was right to keep it from her, as the operation is not suited to take a transplant from a living donor.
Overall this Batman and Mr. Freeze animated film is okay. But it’s nothing more than okay, when it comes to Batman tales this is definitely off-brand vanilla ice cream. It’s not horrible but it’s not very good either. It doesn’t really do anything wrong, but it’s just so predictable.
