I started to watch Dragon Ball Super again. Since I know the English dub is now done with all the episodes, I shouldn’t have to go through anymore awkward waiting. This starts the Universe 6 Saga, which is the first saga in Dragon Ball Super not to be based on a standalone film before the series was made.
The story starts off after Frieza’s latest defeat at the hands of Goku, with a little help from the angel Whis. Goku and Vegeta resume their training with Whis on Lord Beerus’ planet far away from Earth. Except one day, a pair that look very close to Beerus and Whis arrive to “say hello.” Turns out they’re Lord Champa and his attendant Vados. Champa is Beerus’ brother and Vados is Whis’ sister. Together they serve as the God of Destruction and Angel of Universe 6. Goku and his friends are in Universe 7.
Beerus and Whis tell Goku and Vegeta that Universe 6 is basically a “twin universe” to their own. Beerus and Champa hate each other, and so the two brothers challenge the other to a tournament of their own fighters. If Beerus’ team wins, he’ll get the Super Dragon Balls, which are like the Earth and Namekian dragon balls, but they have no limits on wishes. But defeating the team from Universe 6 will not be easy. Beerus wants to make sure they win, as Champa will wish for Universe 7’s Earth to be placed in his universe instead.
And sure enough the team from Universe 6 have some pretty familiar faces. You have Frost, who is a space emperor just like Frieza was. Except everyone is apparently shocked to learn that Frost is supposed to be noble and heroic. There’s also Cabba who is a saiyan, but he doesn’t have tail, he doesn’t know what a Super Saiyan is, and his homeworld is not only still around but they fight for good, not to conquer for selfish reasons. Can Goku and the rest of the Z warriors keep their Earth in Universe 7 or will Champa get his wish?
Overall Part 3 of Dragon Ball Super is okay, there’s a good bit of filler that should not have been part of the series. I thought Vegeta shined pretty bright during the episodes, and the last match with Goku and Hit was worthy of the Z fame even if it ends on a cliffhanger for Part 3.
