After Piranha Plant, Joker was the next DLC character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. I heard the news first by words of text, and I thought they meant Joker…from Batman and I was very confused. No, Persona 5 has a lead hero known as Joker but his real name is Ren Amamiya. While Persona isn’t owned by Sony, the Persona games have a long history on PlayStation. While some spinoff games have landed on Nintendo platforms (including Persona 5 spinoffs) the real Persona 5 isn’t currently planned for Nintendo Switch.
Joker is a pretty interesting character. He’s almost like a very interesting assassin who uses quasi-dance moves all the time. He also has a decent recover to him, though many other characters can get back to the stage easier than he can.
He has a “counter” like the Fire Emblem cast (minus Robin) and Palutena. Except at first it charges his persona demon thing. Once the persona (Arsene) is behind Joker, all of his attacks are much more powerful and he can counter moves like normal.
His final smash is easy to miss but it’s all theatrical.
With plenty of cameos from his friends in the games.
But it’s a powerful attack, one I’ve been subject to many times before playing as Joker myself.
When Kirby takes his power, he gets two handguns. They’re pathetically weak, and not even that great with Arsene backing up Joker with power. About a waste of time for Kirby to use it since he can’t use Arsene’s magic.
Overall I did okay with Joker but I’m not nearly as good with him as other people are. If you see someone playing as Joker, be prepared. Even with I played as him, I rarely lost that badly to a foe. You’ll still have to work a bit to defeat him.
