Richter Belmont is a fighter in the new Super Smash Bros. Ultimate game and I’m glad he made it. I was a big fan of the Castlevania games (mainly the Metroidvanias) and Richter was my favorite Belmont in the series. His main game was Rondo of Blood but he also had a major role as a boss (good guy under puppet control) in Symphony of the Night after Alucard wakes up from centuries asleep.
He’s an echo fighter of Simon Belmont, who in the game’s lore is probably his grandfather or great-grandfather. Since Simon defeated Dracula about a hundred years before Richter, I’m thinking more on the lines of he’s Simon’s great-grandson. Which means, Simon was probably dead of old age before Richter was born.
Either way, both Belmonts control and act 99% the same. You have most of the classic sub-weapons as special moves.
Richter’s holy water is blue, which I think is cooler than the dark red Simon has for his.
His smash attack range is pretty far. While it takes him a bit longer to strike, it’s hard for anyone to miss with that vampire killer whip.
His biggest weakness is his fall recover. While it’s probably just in my head, I had better luck returning as Richter than Simon, both of them can’t be knocked off the stage too far before they will certainly fall to their doom.
His final smash, Grand Cross is the same as his ancestor. I hate that it’s pretty easy to miss with this one.
But pity the fool who gets trapped in Dracula’s coffin and hit with lots of light magic.
When Kirby takes Richter’s power, he gets the throwing axe, same as Simon Belmont too. It’s powerful but easy to miss and pretty easy for foes to evade.
But I do like Richter. He’s not in my top five, but I did decently well with the vampire hunter.
