While he was still a young man, future movie director Alfred Hitchcock tried to join the British army as a regular soldier to help the Allied Powers win World War I. However the British military turned him down for health reasons, mainly due to being overweight.

  1. I thought if you were overweight they just made you exercise more to lose it. I didn’t know they would turn someone down back then for that reason.
