Video Game History: Star Wars: Obi-Wan (Xbox)

Star Wars: Obi-Wan was a game released in 2001 for the original Xbox. While the Gamecube featured Star Wars: Rouge Leader (based on the classic movies) at launch, the Xbox opted for a Star Wars adventure that ditched X-Wings for lightsabers.

The game was obviously based on Star Wars Episode I: Phantom Menace with the ability to play as the then-padawan learner Obi-Wan Kenobi in the lead role. While gamers originally thought the game was going to be a successor to Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II on PC, it turned out a bit different.

While some critics thought the game to be decent, most of the video game magazines I read at the time loathed it. So when I finally got an Xbox, I wasn’t exactly willing to the search the galaxy to find it. The graphics look Dreamcast-level, and the combat doesn’t seem very thrilling. I could be wrong, but I doubt the force is strong with this one.
