Fun facts about black cats

The first pilgrims in America were highly-religious and obviously brought many superstitions with them from Europe. One was a distrust of black cats that many assumed were companions of witches and connected to the Devil and demons. Someone owning in a black cat in their community would be highly-punished and even killed for it.

  1. Even today, humane societies say black cats are often not adopted and they really have to scrutinize people who DO adopt black cats to make sure they have no nefarious purpose in doing so, like animal sacrifice or something.
