(Not So) Fun Fact: Free Birth

Fun facts about pregnancy

A free birth is unassisted child birth typically done at the mother’s house. With no doctor or midwife, the mother gives birth with little help, rarely outside family.

Since 20% of pregnancies come with unexpected complications, it is heavily condemned by many medical groups. In my personal opinion, this is absolutely and positively one of the dumbest and dangerous things mothers can do to themselves and their babies. Since social media goes unchecked, this movement has become popular (my stepdaughter’s paternal half-sister was born this way) but it is statistically dangerous for all parties involved. I am very thankful for the doctors, nurses, and medical equipment for the birth of my son, especially considering he was a planned c-section.

  1. Cute, cute, cute. Granted my husband had to deliver our son in the hospital elevator by himself, but I was glad that I was able to see a nurse soon after.

  2. I’ll stick with modern medicine, thank you very much! My older daughter was born a month early and she was a breech baby, which required an immediate caesarean. It’s modern medicine that kept us both healthy – and alive!
