In 1968, about 200 protesters stood outside the contest for Miss America and threw away feminine items like bras and fake eyelashes. It was definitely one of the most notable events of the early feminist movement. Bringing widespread attention to the feminist cause. Some of the attention definitely backfired as some people were culture shocked and others developed misconceptions about the protest and feminism in general.
