Gay men used to call themselves “friends of Dorothy” when being publicly out wasn’t pleasant. The American Navy thought Dorothy was literal and was trying to figure out how this woman had a network of gay men working for her. They launched a literal and serious investigation.

    Man, that makes them seem extremely unintelligent if they couldn’t even figure that one out without an investigation.
