Fun Fact: The USSR Seriously Requested To Join NATO
In 1954, in response with West Germany joining NATO, the USSR (Of which NATO was founded to counter) requested to join. The Soviet Union didn’t even seriously expect to get in but if America and the UK hadn’t rejected them, it could have in theory, ended the Cold War.

Miguel de Cervantes was most famous as the author of the novel Don Quixote. He fought honorably for Spain but ended up captured and lived as a slave for five years until he got his freedom.

Christopher Columbus encountered manatees and thought they were mermaids. He commented that they were much uglier than he expected.
