The Roman Emperor Hadrian decided to build a temple in honor of the Roman gods, especially Jupiter in Jerusalem during the 1st century. It was a reason for a later Jewish revolt.

(Not So) Fun Fact: Marriage Restrictions in Israel

Unlike many other countries, Israel doesn’t really have civil marriages as they’re all tied to religion. A man and woman of the Jewish faith can get married very easily, but non-religious people have to get a civil union. Interfaith marriages are generally banned, especially ones involving a Muslim man and a Jewish woman.

Fun Fact: Kevin McCarthy’s GOP Trip Swimming in Israel

While he was serving Eric Cantor, he was among 30 Republicans to take a public trip to Israel. While him and Cantor didn’t technically participate in the swimming, most of the other Republicans had swam in the Sea of Galilee. One member actually skinny dipped. Causing great embarrassment to the two Republican bigwigs.

During the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, West Germany, Palestinian terrorists captured an Israeli Olympic team and listed demands. While West German police killed the terrorists, they failed to protect any of the hostages.

(Not So) Fun Fact: 1973 Oil Crisis

For supporting Israel, Saudi Arabia and many Islamic nations with oil stopped selling gasoline to the countries that sided with Israel. Gas prices in America went up 300% and there were shortages.
