At the beginning of George W. Bush’s presidency, Congress had predicted that the national budget would have a 5.6 trillion dollar surplus over ten years. Massive tax cuts, wars, and other things caused the surplus to vanish and the national debt increased.

2016 GOP presidential candidate John Kasich was not entirely new to the presidential primaries. He actually ran for president in 2000 while he was still a congressman (he’s currently a Governor), but dropped out before primary voting. George W. Bush later won the Republican primary in a major landslide against John McCain and Alan Keyes.

While former President George W. Bush’s brother (and former Governor of Florida) is known as Jeb, it’s not exactly his real name. His name is really John Ellis Bush, the nickname Jeb is really the initials of his full name.

In his younger days future-president George W. Bush struggled with alcoholism. He said his wife Laura gave his life stability and because of her he finally gave up alcohol entirely in 1986.
Fun Fact: When a Republican Candidate Claimed She Once Dabbled With Witchcraft
In the 2010 Senate race for Delaware, Republican nominee Christine O’Donnell claimed that she was not a witch after comedian Bill Maher brought up a quote from something she said in the 1990’s about once “dabbling in witchcraft”. She lost the general election with only 40% of the vote.
