Fun Fact: The Last Emperor of the Byzantine Empire

Fun facts about the Byzantine Empire

After many centuries of Eastern Roman Emperors, the last remains of the Roman Empire finally perished (though the West fell long before it) as Constantine XI Palaiologos was the final ruler of the Eastern Roman Empire (Byzantine Empire) until the Ottomans took over and Constantinople fell. There were rumors that an angel rescued the Emperor before he died, which gave many Christians the false hope that their faith would take back the city again.
