In the TV series, The Simpsons, their hometown of Springfield is located in an unknown state and the show’s writers have given contradictory “clues” of where its located in America. While the fictional one is based on many things, Matt Groening says it’s officially named after the Springfield in his home-state of Oregon.

While self-serve stations are common-place in America, but those in Oregon and New Jersey can’t pump their own gasoline. The states require attendants to help folks as an effort to protect jobs.
