The Battle of Maritsa was a pivotal point in the early days where Serbia fought the Ottoman Empire. The Serbians greatly outnumbered the Ottomans at the battle but due to Ottoman strategy, they were soundly defeated. Even King VukaĊĦin of Serbia, was killed in the battle.
