Fun Fact: Effectiveness of Barbed Wire During World War I

Barbed wire was used constantly during World War I as it efficiently slowed movement of enemy forces, protected the men behind it, and was easily replaced when damaged. However when tanks rolled out in 1916, they had made the barbed wire defense far less useful as they could roll right through it.

Fun Fact: Medal of Honor Winner Alvin York

During World War I, an American solider named Alvin York earned the Medal of Honor. During a battle against German forces, he took out a machine gun nest, killed six enemy soldiers, and captured 132 others. The most amazing thing is that he accomplished most of this by himself.

(Not So) Fun Fact: The Man Who Literally Started World War I

While tensions were rough between nations, many cite the starting point of World War I when a young man named Gavrilo Princip assassinated Archduke Franz Ferdinand. This led Austria-Hungary to invade Serbia which in turn caused the conflicts that evolved into World War I.

Fun Fact: Germany Creating an Impostor Ship During WWI

During World War I, Germany decided to make a ship to look like the British ship the RMS Carmania. This was to make suprise attacks on British ships. Except the German imposter ship met up with the real RMS Carmania, and the British naval ship sank the German one.
