X-Men vs. Street Fighter did not see release on the Sega Saturn outside of Japan. Sega of America had a big wig who refused to consider it. His reasoning was because it was a 2D game instead of a 3D one.

Like all of its other sister games before Marvel vs. Capcom 3 had the similar problem, X-Men vs. Street Fighter never saw a single re-release after its original run. As the rights to the game were lost to Capcom temporarily because of Marvel selling the rights to certain characters to different movie studios.

Out of the two home ports, the Sega Saturn version of X-Men vs. Street Fighter was considered to be the better of the two. The PlayStation version removed several things, including Tag Team battles because of the limitations of the console.
