Ford vs Ferrari was a movie I largely ignored last year. I’m not much of a car guy or a fan of racing. But I heard good things and my library got a copy of it on Blu-ray. So it was time to check it out for myself.

The film is based on a true story during the 1960s. Ford started to feel like it needed to be a better name in auto-racing especially in Europe. It offered a merger deal with Ferrari but Enzo Ferrari refused along with an insult. Which makes Henry Ford II furious and out for revenge.

Ford makes a deal with Carroll Shelby to make a Ford car to win the Le Mans race in Europe. Shelby won it himself in the past, but beating Ferrari will be a considerable challenge. One that may be next to impossible.

Building a Ford capable of such a brutal endurance race is one challenge, getting a driver capable enough of completing the long race is another. Carroll Shelby recruits Ken Miles to be his race car driver. While he has the skill, he is quite wild and the executives at Ford are not going to like him.

Overall, I enjoyed Ford vs Ferrari. I’m not much of a car guy, but I found the movie and its story interesting. It’s about two and a half hours long, which is quite too long. It is interesting to see the Ford Motor Company in its better days too.
Overall: B+
I didn’t think I would end up watching this one either, but like you, I ended up enjoying the story, and the characters seemed pretty good for the movie. The library is really getting pretty good with their movie offerings. Hugs, RO
