Angry Birds was a huge game for mobile phones about a decade ago, and while the steam for their games have run out a bit (compared to their prime) they are still making the movies based on the games. I really had no idea Angry Birds Movie 2 came out last summer until about a month ago. I saw the first film and it was decent but nothing special. I figured this one would be not as good, as sequels often are.

The story takes place not too long after the events of the first movie. The island of happy and/or angry birds now think of Red as a hero rather than a loser. And he does enjoy his time in the spotlight of heroics. Though he doesn’t do much besides send “pranks” to the island of Green Pigs.

For which they send their own pranks back. Things get so bad between the two islands, the Green Pigs offer up a truce. At first Red doesn’t believe them (thinking it’s a clever “prank”) but soon he finds out that they are quite serious. While both islands want to live in their own peace, the Green Pigs know something else.

Another island which is full of eagles are plotting to destroy both their islands. Their leader is Zeta, whom is a bit on the crazy train. But the threat of destruction is pretty real, and Red and the Green Pig’s King will have to work together or they might be doomed. Can they forget their differences and save the day once again?

Overall I was a bit shocked that The Angry Birds Movie 2 is actually… a little better than the original. It’s not that much better but it’s more enjoyable and likable. Though to be honest, I really don’t want to see them crank out a third movie because I would have no hopes they could come up with a better plot with all the ideas they’ve already pulled. But they did good here, so that does count.
