I’ve heard of the movie for quite some time now, however I thought this would be more a show and dance thing rather than a more major story-line.

Don’t get me wrong, there is a lot of singing and dancing, with top-notch production values to boot. They do a nice job of switching back and forth between “acting” and “singing.”

The film is about a young girl named Roxie Hart. After being lied to by her awful boyfriend, she shot him dead. She’s at first scared of the thought of being hanged, but eventually loves the spotlight from the papers more than the thought of going free.

Catherine Zeta-Jones provides a great performance as Velma who is Roxie’s rival for media attention. She also killed her lover.

Richard Gere also performs well as their lawyer Billy. Such a controlling asshole with class.

Definitely one of the better films from the early 2000s.
