Fun facts about the American Civil War

The first land battle of the Civil War took place near the home of a man named Wilmer McLean. Because of this the McLean family moved about 120 miles away. At the end of the Civil War, McLean’s home was reluctantly used when Robert E. Lee formally surrendered to General Ulysses S. Grant. McLean later remarked “The war began in my front yard and ended in my front parlor”.
