During a lunar eclipse the moon can turn red especially during a full-eclipse. Typically the moon shines because of sunlight, however during an eclipse it passes in the shadow of the Earth. The reason it turns red is that some sun-light passes through the Earth’s atmosphere and reflects upon the moon.
