The town of Franklin, Massachusetts is named in honor of Ben Franklin, as the townspeople were hoping to get his attention. They wanted Franklin to give them a bell for their church. Franklin thought knowledge was more useful than a church bell and gave them many books instead. So instead of improving a church, they started a library.
