I had heard about If I Stay last year, as the movie is based on a popular book that I never read. I noticed Chloe Grace Moretz was in it and I honestly believe she’s one the most talented actresses alive.

The story is about Mia Hall who is a shy girl who likes to play her cello. A cool rocker guy named Adam Wilde basically asks her out and she can’t believe it so much that she’s in a bit of self-denial. They start to date and everything goes fairly well and even Mia’s family likes Adam.

The family decides to take a trip on a snow day, and their car crashes with another vehicle. Mia wakes up alone, and realizes that she’s no longer in her body. She jumps in the ambulance and travels to the hospital where her body is still alive. A nurse tells a comatose Mia that it’s up to her whether she lives or dies, but with the rest of her family with grim fates will she want to?

Overall I’m glad I skipped this one in theaters last year. Chloe Grace Moretz is excellent but the story is just way too depressing and I just didn’t think Mia and Adam were “in love”. They reminded me of too many high-school romances that crumble in no time. I liked her connection to her brother Teddy, but I hear the book is better about showing how strong their bond really was.
