In the late 14th century, a minor noble named Jacques le Gris was accused of forcing himself upon the wife of his rival/neighbor. The King of France delayed the trial by combat so he wouldn’t miss it. Jacques le Gris was defeated and killed but his legacy lived on for many centuries in France. Historians mostly believe he was guilty but many debate how certain the verdict really could be.
