Things I Like: Qui-Gon Jinn (Star Wars Prequel Trilogy)

Despite only being in one movie, Qui-Gon Jinn was one of my favorite Jedi in the whole Star Wars medium.

While the original trilogy suggests that Yoda was Obi-Wan Kenobi’s master, it was retconned as Qui-Gon Jinn. He himself was trained by Count Dooku, who was then trained by Yoda.

Impressively, he becomes one of two Jedi to take on the Trade Confederation before the Clone Wars.

When he gets stranded on Tatooine, he uses his talents and intelligence to not only get off the planet, but set free a boy who is the Jedi Messiah, allegedly.

But to be honest, most Star Wars conflicts would have been resolved if he had never found Anakin Skywalker at all.

Most people didn’t realize that he was more of a maverick Jedi than a traditional one. The council wasn’t too keen on the idea of him taking on Anakin Skywalker as his next padawan apprentice once Obi-Wan passed his knight trials. His old master Count Dooku was convinced that he would have joined him in the dark side of the force, and Qui-Gon technically does have a lot of qualities for a Jedi to be pushed to the dark side.

His fight with Darth Maul was pretty awesome.

Even though he doesn’t do it in Revenge of Sith onscreen, I was so delighted to see his Force ghost in the new Obi-Wan Kenobi series on Disney+.
