Barbie is on track to be the highest grossing film of this year after it topples the Super Mario Bros. Movie. I had actually wanted to see it after they unveiled small details that it would not be a movie made for kids, but a Barbie movie smartly made for adults.

Margot Robbie plays the main Barbie of the whole movie, but there are plenty of other Barbies around. Including a blue mermaid one played by Dua Lipa. The stereotypical Barbie’s life is fairly harmonious and every day is just like the next, PERFECT.

But one day, she starts to wonder about death and other not-so-happy emotions. Then she discovers that her life is not perfect after all. And she begs a weird Barbie to you find out what’s wrong with her.

So she finds out she has to go to the real world to find her owner, who is influencing her ideas. And her not-so-beloved boyfriend Ken tags along with her.

I will say it’s pretty perfect casting that Margot Robbie became the Title Character Barbie. It’s hard to believe that the role was originally offered to Amy Schumer, but apparently that movie was going to be much different.

Kate McKinnon was excellent as the Weird Barbie. I’m glad to see that she’s still getting notable work after leaving Saturday Night Live.

My wife was really impressed by America Ferrera in the movie. One of the few human characters, she really touched my wife with her monologue and I believe my wife was not alone with most of the women that ever saw this movie.

One of the biggest surprises was Michael Cera as Alan. In the trailer, he may have seemed like a minor character for a single joke but there’s one scene with him that definitely made him super awesome.

And of course, Ryan Gosling as the major Ken of the movie. My wife wasn’t the biggest fan of him for whatever reason, but Ryan Gosling actually killed it. His character goes through a lot of struggle and inner emotions and I’m actually not surprised at all that he’s the only one rumored to actually be in the running for an Oscar nomination.
I really liked this movie. America’s monologue was perfect and summed up what women have to deal with on a daily basis. I thought everyone was perfectly cast.
I’m waiting for this to be on a streaming service before watching it. I’m looking forward to it! I love satire. Glad you enjoyed it!
