Pirates lived in a very male-dominated society and as such, rarely ever had wives or traditional families. Two pirates could have a Matelotage (French for “seamanship”) which would in a sense make two pirates technically “husbands” but this wasn’t really a romantic union and really one about partnership, property, and inheritance.
