Things I Like: Vincent Vega (Pulp Fiction)

John Travolta as Vincent Vega Quentin Tarantino's Pulp Fiction 1994 movie John Travolta

Vincent Vega is one of the most important characters in Quentin Tarantino’s 1994 film Pulp Fiction. At the time, John Travolta’s career was in decline, and this role helped revitalize it, bringing him back to his former glory. A bit of a shame he went on to ruin it again with all that crazy Scientology stuff.

Vincent is a gangster working for mob boss Marcellus Wallace. While he’s not as intimidating as his partner, Jules Winnfield, he’s definitely willing to do just about anything for the big man.

One of the funniest parts of the movie is when he accidentally shoots Marvin in the face and then acts like it was Jules’ fault for allegedly hitting a bump in the road.

I also found it amusing that he was totally cool with being ordered to take Marcellus Wallace’s wife, Mia, out to entertain her. A lot of guys would probably be too nervous to even consider doing that. And when she almost overdoses, he’s definitely in a world of trouble.

Death of Vincent Vega Quentin Tarantino's Pulp Fiction 1994 movie John Travolta

His character is actually the brother of Vic Vega from Reservoir Dogs, which preceded Pulp Fiction. And just like his brother, he gets taken out by surprise. Vic never saw his fate coming, but Vincent? He got lazy, went to the toilet, and left his gun outside—sealing his own doom.

I did like his laid back personality. We watch this at least once a year and it never gets old.
