Jennifer Spencer is one of the love interests of Harry Callahan in the Dirty Harry franchise, appearing solely in a single film, Sudden Impact. She was portrayed by the late Sondra Locke, who at the time was Clint Eastwood’s long-term domestic partner, a detail that feels somewhat ironic given what happens to her character in the story. Unless Eastwood had an unusually strong preference for method acting fueled by rage.

Her character suffers a tragic and brutal violation in every conceivable way, prompting her to embark on her own relentless quest for vengeance against her attackers. Along the way, she crosses paths with Harry, is initially unnerved upon learning he is a police officer, yet eventually finds herself romantically involved with him nonetheless.

Ironically, she later ends up in a similar perilous situation and would have faced a horrific fate had Harry not survived and returned at the last moment.

Just in time to kill Mick, the man she most wanted dead.

If memory serves, she and Harry still seemed to harbor feelings for each other at the film’s end. However, by the next installment, she had vanished entirely, both in the story and, amusingly enough, in real life. Clint Eastwood may be a legendary actor, but if one examines his romantic history, it’s hard not to conclude that the common denominator in his failed relationships might just be him.
