Fun Fact: When Students Gained The Right To Refuse the Pledge of Allegiance

In 1943 during West Virginia State Board of Education v. Barnette, the Supreme Court ruled that school children could not be compelled to cite the Pledge of Allegiance or be punished for not doing so. The case was sparked by Jehovah’s Witnesses.
