Ossian Sweet was a African-American doctor who moved into a white neighborhood in the 1920’s in Detroit, Michigan. His racist neighbors formed an angry mob and attacked his house. Sweet along with other friends and family were in the house. They fired shots in self-defense but nevertheless were charged with murder. Luckily, the court system eventually made Sweet and those affected innocent without a doubt. Though unforutanley, Sweet was plagued with family and personal tragedies afterward and eventually took his own life.
