Croc: Legend of the Gobbos PS1 boxart

I remember having a demo of it as a kid, but never got the chance to play the full-version until recently.

I suppose this game came out before the PlayStation had analog sticks. It’s a full 3-D game like Super Mario 64, but I think they should of tried some fake 3D levels like Crash Bandicoot for one reason and one reason only.

That reason is that the controls are terrible. Croc walks like he just came out of a late-night bar, and there’s no way you’ll be able to do some of the platforming in this game. I like the short-stages and objectives, though some of it’s just mindless collecting of stuff that doesn’t matter.

It gets some respect for boldness, but tons of hate for it’s execution of ideas. This could have been so much more if they hadn’t tried to stress the hardware limitations of the system…or should I say controller.

Score: 3 out of 10
