Things I Hate: Aqua Moto Racing Utopia (Nintendo Switch)

I had no idea this game even existed until I saw it at my local library in their video game rack. Since their Switch selection isn’t huge, most of the games that aren’t reserved are typically ones that aren’t very good. But I was hoping to give it a try, as it reminded me of the Wave Race series that Nintendo hasn’t done since 2001 on Gamecube.

The game isn’t very unique in my opinion. You can create your own character, but it’s all very bland and not very exciting.

But the jet-ski racing is about what you’d expect. The water has constant waves, obstacles are all around, and there’s options and incentives to do trick moves as you race.

Like Wave Race, you have to drive your jet-ski on the right side of buoys in the water. You can only miss three or your time in the race is done and over with. There’s an option to play online with other players, but since this game doesn’t have a large or even small community behind it, I couldn’t find anyone after a few minutes of waiting.

So I decided to return it to the library after about an hour of playing the game. I read some people liked it, but I just don’t think it’s worth my time. Feels like a bland game stuck in the past and the races aren’t very fun especially with the buoys as they are easy to miss and the game is rather brutal to you about not getting them right.
