The Long Halloween is a Batman comic book I never picked up. But I watched Part One of the animated version not long ago. I really enjoyed it and I knew Part Two would be even better.
The story starts with Batman and Jim Gordon still stumped on the identity of the Holiday killer. All signs are pointing to Harvey Dent, but they would need real hard evidence to make the accusation. He’s also a friend, and both men hope it’s not really true.
The unfortunate timing of Poison Ivy doesn’t help matters. She was hired by Carmine Falcone to seduce Bruce Wayne into making him his puppet. Deep under a love spell, Batman’s daytime persona is utterly trapped. And the Dark Knight will be absent until he’s freed.
Harvey Dent is starting to show signs of mental instability. But he seems adamant about putting Carmine Falcone behind bars the proper way. He’s even desperate enough to make a deal with his rival Sal Maroni to put the Roman away for good. But is Harvey Dent really Holiday?
The Long Halloween Part Two is certainly better than Part One and the whole story is pretty darn good. I was worried they were throwing too many Batman baddies into the mix but it mostly works. I guessed the answer to the actual mystery early on, so I wasn’t too shocked. Not the best Dark Knight story but among the better ones.
Score: B+
