Founded in 1881, the German Freekthinkers League was founded to upset the power of the state church and to lay the foundation of the rise of irreligion/atheism in Germany. When the Nazis took power, they had shut down all atheist/free-thinking groups. One of the league’s leaders was executed by a guillotine.
