While Call of Duty and Halo are kings among FPSs today, shortly before either of those series came out this was the best thing console gamers had. Which is pretty sad looking back. I can see why PC gamers teased console gamers for so long about the genre.

Back then Red Faction seemed like the most cutting edge game out. It had a futuristic setting, a dark story, and the game’s main gimmick was that you could destroy walls and some other things.

Today destroying the walls in the original game isn’t even mildly amusing, and the rest of the game just seems like a generic sci-fi shooter. I know it was once top dog with a serious fanbase, but I have no doubt why the series faded in popularity to superior FPS games.
