While the armor of European knights were made of metal and limited mobility, the armor of the samurai in Japan was much different. They were generally made of leather and iron, and were designed to be as lightweight as possible. This allowed the samurai not only the protection of armor, but the mobility and speed to use a sword, a bow, or to ride a horse with ease.
