A man named William Ernest Henley was friends with author Robert Louis Stevenson, and he served as the inspiration of the character Long John Silver in the book Treasure Island. His daughter Margaret interestingly enough inspired J.M. Barrie to create the character Wendy Darling in his Peter Pan series
