The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle and Friends (NES) Review

The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle and Friends NES Boxart

As a kid I watched a bit of the original series. It was a great cartoon, but it’s popularity has faded over the years, and the younger generation of kids today probably have no idea who Rocky or Bullwinkle is. Now I feel old… Well on the bright side, they’ll never have to play this piece of garbage.

The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle and Friends NES video Game

This is no joke, this is what the game looks like. I know NES games aren’t exactly works of art, but this looks like it came out of a computer paint program. The game also moves about 5 frames per second, so don’t expect this game to run very smoothly. The music is also not good on the ears, just a heads up. Lastly the controls barely work, you’ll often be frustrated when Bullwinkle doesn’t turn or jump the way you wanted him to.

The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle and Friends Nintendo Entertainment System video game

So the game has you mostly playing as Bullwinkle where he jumps around blindly throwing bombs or headbutting random enemies. The point of the game is to get from point A to point B without dying. Which would be easy if random foes didn’t drop out of nowhere knocking you off platforms or taking your last piece of health. The game should have been called The Adventures of Broken Gameplay, because this title barely qualifies as a game.
