I never even heard of this movie back in 2000, and only rented it after hearing that Roger Ebert called it the best film for that year. Apparently he wasn’t the only one as it was well-received critically even though not too many people saw it in theaters.

The story is about a young kid named William Miller, who came from the upbringing from a odd mother. For example his mother put him in school too early, and he thought he was a few years older until he reached middle school. He meets some people in the rock industry, and becomes a journalist at the age of 15.

By luck he meets the (fictional) band Stillwater, and they like his praise of the group so they let him in their world. He sees all the glamour and all the pain of being a rocker in the early 70s. Though its not always fun for William as he gets a job to cover the band for Rolling Stone magazine. He learns that even getting a simple interview is headache-inducing from rockers and it’s not easy writing a cover story for a major magazine.

While I don’t think it’s the best film of 2000, it certainly is an enjoyable movie. I think it does a fantastic job at giving an ode to the rock and roll of the 70s. It might not of made a huge splash to the general public, but it’s a good little movie you may never heard of.
