I’ve never been a fan of the film series, heck I doubt I’ve even sat through one of the movies for the full showing once in my lifetime. Not because I’m afraid, it’s because most of those movies are terrible. Granted it was one of the first “horror” games on any system. The rainbow on the box-art confirms it.

Like I said, I’m not too familiar with the movies, but this game is set somewhere after the first film. The point is to travel around Camp Crystal Lake and wait for Jason to attack a cabin. You then travel all the way across the sometimes nonsensical map where up can mean down or left could be right.

Traveling across the map is pretty painless if you can get past the shear boredom. There are many monsters that pop up so they can attack you but they can be easily dodged or killed. I prefer jumping over them since it takes less time.

Once you get to one of these cabins, you’ll search around until Jason sneaks attacks on you and fights to the death. Unlike the other monsters, Jason will always kill you. It’s just like the movies, if Jason loses, it’s a miracle. Speaking of miracles, don’t be praying for any if you think the game gets any better. It’s the same old stuff over and over again, actually pretty literally. I can see why this is rated as one of the NES’s worst games of all time.
