Karl Heinrich Ulrichs was a German writer in the 19th century who actively wrote and protested for the rights of the LGBT community. A member of the community himself, his books were often taken away by the governments of the Germanic nations at the time. After his death, he became largely forgotten until his legacy was revived by many of his fans in Germany in the late 20th century.
