I actually remember this game coming out back near 2000. Never heard of the original games until someone wrote a review that it was the first Prince of Persia in years. Unlike the later games Prince of Persia 3D was part of the original’s game storyline instead of new plot, characters, and most notably a new Prince.

The original games were known for their platforming and combat, and Prince of Persia 3D was no different. It actually shares a lot with the Sands of Time sub-series, but obviously older. It definitely has a more classical European view of Persia than its successors.

The same platforming also seemed to be present as well, with many caves and cliffs to adventure through. Though it certainly isn’t as fast or smooth as the games that followed. From what I’ve seen of the game, it looks like Sands of Time meets the original Tomb Raider.

The PC game was also ported to the Dreamcast under the title Prince of Persia: Arabian Nights in 2000. While the DC version fixed many control problems cited in the PC version, it did little else. The game struggled to garner even decent reviews, and has faded away into gaming history. Don’t expect Ubisoft to bring this baby back to Xbox Live Arcade or Playstation Network.
