Louis Wain was a English artist very famous for his cat pictures. He suffered from mental illness later in life and ended up in a mental institution without happiness or cats. He was discovered there and many of his fans including HG Wells and Prime Minister Stanley Baldwin personally intervened to make sure he ended up with the best of care with plenty of feline friends to draw.
