The Kyshtym disaster happened in the Soviet Union during 1957. While it wasn’t technically a power plant, it became a nuclear disaster and killed over 200 people with radiation at least. Before the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, it was considered the worst nuclear event in the Soviet Union’s history.
