During the 1919 World Series against the Cincinnati Reds, the White Sox ended up losing the championship. Many were skeptical because their team did seem so superior to the Cincinnati Reds. Turned out that eight players colluded with a crime boss to throw the game for the sake of gambling a profit. They were eventually caught with their careers and legacies ruined. The most notable of the baseball players was Shoeless Joe Jackson.
