Alabama Governor Kay Ivey signed a bill getting rid of “Judicial Override” when it came to capital punishment. Alabama was the only state where a judge could overrule a jury if they had recommended life without parole versus death. She didn’t do this for good reasons, as Republicans in Alabama knew their capital punishment system was about to be ruled unconstitutional, and tried to get around that.
